Girls' tips

Clothing

Choosing the right style of clothing is one of the most important things in dancing. Especially in girls´ case, boys have got the advantage here, they have it much easier!

Firstly we have to say the dresses aren't absolutely necessary. Some of you might feel relieved right now ,because as we know, not every girl wants to be a princess and not all of us feel well wearing short skirts and flowy dresses. Solution might be for example formal overall or trousers in combination with some blouse. I repeat, formal trousers, not jeans or leggings. I believe that each lady can get dressed formally, so I'm pretty sure we are done with this topic.

The topic we would like to talk about is the right footwear. Comfortable footwear is more important than you think. We personally say no to the high heels. They look pretty cool, but they are not practical at all. Sure, they say we need to suffer for beauty, but bloody painful feet are over the limit. I would recommend not to buy new shoes you are not used to. I'd better take some old ones, because they can be damaged. Also a shoe with an open toe cap is a big risk, but it's up to you. If you don't have shoes like this, feel free to buy dancing shoes, which are made especially for this occasion. They might be more expensive, but they are worth it.

The last thing I would like to mention is the fact that nylons are obligatory. It's much easier to put shoes on with them and it's aesthetic.

Lifehacks

We would like to dedicate the following lines to our tips and experience.

  • Do not overdo
I know you hear this a lot, but you don't have to have a huge layer of make-up in dancing. After an hour and half of trying your best in jive, you´ll be sweaty that even your makeup will slowly go down. And that's really not a good feeling and even not a nice view.

  • Prevention is key
Even if you are the lucky one, who has never got any blisters and bruises, it's always better to have a plaster with you (or put it on at home) to put on endangered places such as your heel or sole.

  • Variegation of your wardrobe
If you are not a fan of wearing dresses and you have at most two pieces at home there are two solutions!
Buy another one! An useless advice, right? Well then there´s another one. You can borrow some from your friends, that's way better! Even your friends will appreciate them, you´ll save some money and you won't have to wear the same dress all the time.

  • Who likes nylons?!
All of us know the feeling of nylons sliding down. But we know how to stop it! Basically put another pair of underwear over the nylons. Trust me, it works!

  • Hair spray not just for your hair
We´ll talk about the nylons for a while. They are always tearing up and that's a fact. But you can also prevent it. If you don't want to have big holes in them, spray them with hair spray after you put them on. They´ll be more resistant.

  • Don´t forget your slippers
Of course you don't have to take slippers with you. What I meant was that you should have another pair of shoes in which you can come in and leave. Because after an hour and half of dancing you´ll really feel like wearing slippers. Stumbling in high heel shoes and painful feet isn't really a win-win situation.

  • Bra straps away
You´re wearing the perfect outfit but the straps of your bra are ruining it? We know what to do! A well-known solution is a bra without the straps but when you're wearing a dress up to the neck it's not necessary. You can simply pin them together on your back and the straps will disappear.

We hope our life hacks helped you as much as they helped us.

Etiquette

Are you wondering that we, women, have always had priority in everything, the men serve us and we are just a decoration? In fact, you are not far from the truth.

For us the most important thing in society is to act like real ladies. In dancing it's the same. Our role is to follow the rules of polite conversation, don´t be too loud and try to smile even if we don't really want to.

Basic rules of etiquette:

  1. Firstly we'll tell you something about dressing rooms. Ladies, don´t be shy and let men help you from your coats. Also don't refuse lads when they want to put your clothes in the dressing room.

  2. Men open the door and hold them for you, not conversely.

  3. You also have to pay attention to the way you are sitting so you don't show too much. Surely it wouldn't be pleasant for you and either the others. Don't make sudden moves and rather try not to pick things up from the ground, a gentleman will surely like to give you a hand.

  4. In dancing it is not really polite to refuse a request for a dance even if he isn't your type. Keep in mind that neither for boys the request doesn´t have to be a pleasant moment, so don't make it harder for them. Anyway on the other social events like balls it is okay to refuse someone.

At the end I want to emphasize that ignoring one of the rules might offend the gentleman.

So once more, please, really pay attention to how you act and think of how the men might feel.
